Rexall Sundown agree to pay $12 million
Company Allegedly Made False and Unsubstantiated Claims for "Cellasene" Rexall Sundown, Inc. (Rexall) will pay up to $12 million to resolve Federal Trade Commission charges regarding its marketing of the dietary supplement, "Cellasene," a purported cellulite treatment product. The settlement is contingent on approval by the federal district court in Miami and approval of related settlements in class action lawsuits currently pending against Rexall in California and Florida. If approved, the FTC and class action settlements together will provide up to $12 million in redress for consumers throughout the United States who purchased Cellasene.

On July 20, 2000: The Federal Trade Commission
filed a lawsuit against the marketers of Cellasene, a dietary supplement that was brought to the U.S. by Rexall Sundown. Large scale clinical studies have been completed in Miami that show that the parent company's claims that Cellasene worked were bogus.

In March 1999, we started the ball rolling by establishing the first, and only science based review of Cellasene information and claims. We have tracked the story since it broke.

Now the Canadian Government is investigating Cellasene, and there is a possibility that it could be removed from the market because of the level of one of its constituents, namely iodine. In addition, there are those who are waiting in the wings to initiate a Class Action Lawsuit against the manufactures, distributors, and retail outlets that have sold this product in Canada.
