On May 23, 1998 the Pennysaver delivered to my house contained a flyer from
someone in Waterloo who was afraid to use their real name. They called
themselves Babes and their phone number is 519-884-9936. The phone actually belongs to someone named Pat Mantin and the address
is 138-A Northlake Dr., Waterloo, ON, N2V 1H7.
The product flyer said that the product they call THERMO is the "easiest,
safest way to increase energy, lose weight, and feel better naturally!!"
NO DRUGS, NO CAFFEINE, NO TOXIC CONSTITUENTS
ALL INGREDIENTS ARE 100% NATURAL GUARANTEED!!!
I called the number above after checking out Health
Canada's search engine where I located the product described in the flyer.
The THERMO 5000-C has a DIN number of 02229432. What this means is that
this is basically classified as a drug. In fact it contains ephedra in
each 125 mg per tablet. If each of those tablets contains 125 mg of ephedra,
that's the equivalent of 5 tabs of Sudafed. There is nothing natural about
it. It is dangerous if that is the dose. Health Canada has been contacted
for confirmation on the exact dose.
The Canadian Federal government has tried to regulate
ephedra as a drug, and issued
warnings years ago. If Health Canada is supposed to be protecting the
public, it certainly doesn't have their interest at heart if they have
given a DIN number to this type of product. The phone numbers for Micheline
Ho are listed at that Health Canada site. I suggest that anyone with questions about
it, call her at Health Canada. Ask her why an ephedra containing compound
is allowed in Canada in the first place, and secondly, how can a DIN number
be granted for a product that is being hawked by unregulated sales-people,
and is potentially dangerous when used as a weight loss product. The public
has no idea of what a DIN number means, except that Health Canada has given
its stamp of approval.
THERMO 5000-C is made by Market
America, a company in Greensboro, N.C. The only listing that is close
to the product sold in Canada is their product THERMO
5000. It doesn't contain any ephedra in the U.S. Market, but America does
make low dose ephedra compounds loaded with hype and other crap, but they
don't list THERMO 5000-C on their list. My guess is that they are dumping
the higher dose ephedra compounds up here in Canada.
Thermo 5000C
Greensboro, N.C. company invades Canada with dangerous Ephedra (Ma Huang) Why the
hell did Health Canada approve this dangerous herb?
