    Apple Pectin-Slim by Capital Health-Labs

"The weigh to a woman's fat is through deception"

I LOST 40 POUNDS IN 28 DAYS WITHOUT DIETING

    says Nancy Lee

Those words appeared on page 32 of the Toronto SUN on June 24, 2001. The product was called Pectin-Slim.

The ad also appeared in the Calgary SUN, and possibly other papers controlled by Quebecor.

How stupid are the readers of the SUN newspapers anyway?

The Capital Health-Labs company says it does business out of a mailbox in Finch, Ontario. Fat chance I say of that being the truth. Their operation receives mail there, but their exact location is probably yet another one of those U.S. based operations. I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't another Quebec connection.

    Special Report from Ron Reinhold

There is an 800 number 1-800-854-0744 which goes to the "order desk", which is a hired answering service in Montreal (I wasn't able to pin her down more than that). As they are now trained to do, she would not discuss where the original company was but said if I had questions - write to the customer service department c/o the box number in Finch.

There definetly appears to be a set formula now for making money in this area now - go to Canada, get a post office box number, hire an answering service, train them the operators on what to say, and offer a refund policy, (this one has 60 days - it's a good business decision because it makes it look legitimate, and most people won't ask for a refund), and then see the $$ start rolling in.

Note that this is not "ordinary" apple pectin, but it's "superactivated apple pectin-slim". Boy am I impressed, for a minute here, I thought I was getting ripped off.

Here are just a few pearls....ALL spelling mistakes are theirs, not mine.

    1. Apple Pectin is an energized enzyme that can ingest up to 900 times it's (sic) own weight in fat. That's why it's the best fat blocker ever.

    2. Apple Pectin attacks thousands of fatty cells 24 hours a day. These are devoured and channelled by your system, day after day to eliminate unsightly bulges.

    3. The Superactivated Pectin-Slim tablets are 100% natural. Like an apple in autumn. It's the concentration that makes it so powerful: 2 tablets contain as much active ingredients as what you find in 38 fresh apples.

    4. Forget about prescription. In no way can Pectin-Slim harm your health: I works on the food you eat, not on your system

    5. Superactivated Pectin-Slim tablets eliminate fat for effortless weight loss.

    Same results as:

    * Jogging 10 miles a week
    * an hour of aerobics per day
    * 15 hours of swimming or cycling a week

    You get that idea now.

You can write to the company and complain, because the SUN newspaper chain will do nothing to stop this nonsense.

    Capital Health-Labs
    Box 178 Finch, ON
    K0C 1K0
There is no phone number, except an order desk. 1-800-854-0744

The company wants the public to believe that you could lose 40 pounds in 28 days. Plus they say that you can do it easily.

There is not one word of fact in the advertisement.

I would like someone to contact the postal inspector in Finch, Ontario which is northwest of Cornwall to report this scam. Get a copy of the advertisement and carry it into the post office there and ask to talk to the postal inspector immediately.

I would also like the Sun newspaper chain to stop taking ads that make dubious and deceptive claims. They have not responded to a single letter of complaint over the years. They don't care.

It is obvious that the advertisement originated in the U.S. because they use miles and pounds in the text. They also include the ridiculous disclaimer that the FDA has not evaluated stuff. The FDA has NO jurisdiction in Canada. It is a U.S. based government agency that does not regulate food products like this. It's the FTC that rules on false claims.

So what's the bottom line? Don't buy this or any other weight loss crap you see advertised anywhere.
