Cellasene Odds 'n Ends

Cellasene Canada Notice on Iodine safety
The Acton based health food distributor, Purity Products, released this on the Canada Newswire service on April 13, 2000. They mentioned a study in Pavia, Italy. Well, golly gee, where is that, and who ran the study, and who did the peer review? Did an outside agency or laboratory repeat the evaluation of their pills coming into Canada. And, by the way, what in the world is cellulite?

Google Search for FTC.GOV and GNC
Pay attention to all of the charges and investigations that have been initiated by the FTC for false advertising, etc. GNC - General Nutrition Centers have hundreds of locations around the world.

GNC fined $2.4 million
The FTC charged that the company failed to substantiate disease-treatment, weight-loss, muscle-building and endurance claims for over 40 products. The FTC also alleged that GNC failed to make certain disclaimers when advertising the efficacy of "energy boosting" vitamin products it sold, and made prohibited claims about certain amino acid products. (So why are the Toronto Blue Jays hopping on the Rexall Showcase bandwagon?)

GNC Ordered to Pay $600,000
GNC made false and unsubstantiated claims that a diet supplement, "Healthy Greens," was effective in reducing the risk of cancer. The consent agreement also settles additional charges from a separate investigation that the company falsely claimed six other food supplements would promote weight loss and muscle growth or retard aging.

Numico's Direct marketing in the UK
Cow and Gate faces stiff oppostion for failing to promote breast feeding.
Numico is a Dutch company which was formed soon after Nutricia took over Milupa and Cow&Gate. Since the takeovers, Milupa and Cow&Gate have been acting more aggressively in the UK market and are now using direct marketing techniques to promote breastmilk substitutes to parents. Numico subsidiaries Milupa and Cow&Gate are violating important provisions of the International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes in the UK by promoting breastmilk substitutes direct to parents.

Fat-Fighting Pill Ready to Slim Canada
Tiny capsules that sent Australians into frenzy on sale in Canada. David Chapman, the Canadian distributor says, "For us to go out and make a blatant claim probably would never get past Health Canada." So this is a product with virtually no clinical studies done in Italy and Australia by two clinics. It's as if the gates of Heaven have been opened and money is falling down on those who own the companies who sell them. In reality, those who sell the stuff will probably visit a place, just a wee bit warmer, and they can put their cellulite to good work, shoveling coal.
